Op-Ed: American Energy Dominance Requires American Emissions Dominance

In this op-ed, John "Bunkie" Westerheide, Chief Revenue Officer at Kathairos, argues that American energy dominance now requires American emissions dominance. The two are inseparable strategic priorities.

Natural gas remains essential for its scalability, reliability, and affordability — but its global competitiveness increasingly depends on how effectively methane emissions are managed. Decades of U.S. investment in methane mitigation technology, from satellites and AI-assisted leak detection to advanced modeling, have positioned the country as a global leader in emissions measurement and reduction.

This matters commercially. Hyperscale AI and data center operators are siting facilities based on access to verifiable low-emissions energy. European and Asian LNG buyers, shaped by regulations like the EU's CBAM, are tying market access to emissions performance. Japanese and Korean firms are already investing in U.S. assets to secure low-emissions supply.

Emissions performance has moved from compliance obligation to strategic asset — and from back-office to front-line competitive advantage.
