How oil and gas producers can best leverage Alberta’s Methane Reduction Deployment Program amid evolving regulatory requirements

On November 12, 2025, Emissions Reduction Alberta (ERA) announced $22.4M in funding through the Methane Reduction Deployment Program (MRDP) to accelerate deployment of commercially-available methane mitigation technologies. With federal regulations expected to require near-elimination of methane venting by 2030, Alberta producers can leverage MRDP funding to secure supply early and meet future requirements at a discount.

The program offers up to $1M per company, covering 50% of eligible project costs for non-TIER-regulated Alberta facilities. Approved technologies include nitrogen-based pneumatic conversions — one of the cheapest, highest-impact options available. Kathairos has completed large-scale campaigns installing 300+ tanks in just three months, making MRDP an opportunity to retrofit dozens or hundreds of sites in a single managed project.

One key consideration: ERA-funded projects appear ineligible to generate TIER offsets. Kathairos can provide side-by-side proposals comparing both pathways. Funds are first-come, first-served — early action wins.
